Urbana09: Exclusive First Look!

It’s an Obama year, it’s the year of the Ox, and, Oh baby, IT’S AN URBANA YEAR! I have officially been through a whole Urbana cycle! Because, while I’ve been working on Urbana09 materials since July, it was in January 3 years ago that I started my internship with 2100, working up to Urbana06. Since then, I’ve completed almost every type of project for InterVarsity, in relaxed times & hurried times, with large teams & lean.
I’m excited to announce, in fact, that I’ve just completed the huge projects I spent most of my November and December on: the Urbana09 brochure, Urbana09.org (registation is open!), and the Urbana09 poster. So, here it is, the final version, seen here first! God’s Light and Word pours down to become flesh and dwell with us—all the people speaking every language on earth. "The Word became flesh, and dwelt among us. We have seen his glory..." Jn 1:14

Following Christ 08: Human Flourishing

There are more images to come, but for now I leave you with this one. This is Francis Collins, former head of the Human Genome Project, noted genetisist, author of The Lauguage of God, recent guest on The Colbert Report. He is singing and playing his gituar for all of us at Following Christ, and his gituar has a double helix on the fret board. wonderful. and, I got to meet him- I was changing the ppt screens for him as he played, so we could sing along.

Fighting with Sticks, Playing with Matches.

Yes, fall was fun, even if I can’t quite remember it all. I got a president-elect for my birthday (yep, nov. 4th). I got my first car(!): a 1998 black Saab 900 turbo, and consequently learned to drive stick. I'm actually not bad now- and extra calf strain and a perpetually lit 'check engine' light are a small price to pay for a moon roof and heated seats. Oh right, and not having to beg someone to take me to the drug store for more tooth paste. or standing at the bus stop in -20 windchill. :) Thanks mom and dad! And, since I can now get around, I started helping with High school youth group at Blackhawk Church (I primarily attend MadCity Church). Speaking of getting around (ok, I flew & took the train for these) I attended three New York weddings, three different weekends:

See if you can match my friends with a fact about their wedding...

1) Geraldine & Jeff vvvva) a dog is best man (it's so true...dog is a friend's best man)

2) Paul & Amandavvvvvb) they are announced to the Lord of the Rings' 'Shire Theme'

3) Eli & Amyvvvvvvvvvvvc) sea cucumber is 1 of 12 courses.

In work, but not project, related news: Our prayers are answered, We will be joined by a new graphics person! Laura Li will move from Michigan to Madison to start work with us September 1st. Till then, she's fundraising, so please pray she will be able to raise what is needed.

"Hi. I'm Laura! and the answers are... 1)c, 2)a & 3)b "

Greek Conference 08-09

The promo card I designed and went out back in september, did it's work well, it seems. Lots of fraturnity and sorority students were able to Connect to God, Learn to Lead, and Change the World at the SoCal Greek Conference in Anaheim Oct 24-26, the Indy Greek Conference in Indianapolis Superbowl weekend (still our biggest conference, with all the big ten schools), and the Charlotte Greek Conference Feb 6-8. Below are a couple pictures from Indy...

(with banners to set the scene)

Greek drama on stage
(such a striking backdrop...)

Studying during a seminar
(what nice handbook covers...)

and still throwing the best theme parties
(I can't take credit for that one.)
